Hi,
Having made the decision to go BR, please could you try and answer this for me so we are prepared?

1) when working out your di to see if you need an ipa, what do they take into account of what is necessary expenditure before seeing what you have left? e.g is it just rent, utilities and food or are there other thnigs you are allowed to do? A rough list would be great.

2) can you tell me what may happen to my car. It is only worth £800 max but I live within half a mile of my work place....However my daugters school is 2 miles away so I drop her off in the car before going to work at 9:00am, I wouldn't make it without a car.

Thanks so much

If this is the value of the vehicle you will have no problems in keeping the car. A useful thing for you to do is read Skippy's blog she has a full income & expenditure on there which will provide you with some valuable information as to what you can or cannot include, have a read, if there is something specific you wish to query post again, and i will help

Hi

please find a list below of the expenditures which are claimable:-

Mortgage payments or rent on your home
Housekeeping (including food and cleaning)
Gas, electricity, other heating
Water
Telephone charges
Travelling to and from work and other essential journeys
Clothing
Maintenance payments and fines
Council tax
Hairdressing
Dry Cleaning
Vehicle Insurance
Vehicle Tax
Vehicle Service & Repair
Vehicle MoT
Repairs & Renewals
TV License
Meals at Work
School Meals
Out of School Activities
Domestic Break
Dental Costs
Optician Costs
Prescriptions
Life Insurance
Pet Food
Pet Insurance

Regarding the car, you have a very good case for keeping the car if the journey from school to work is not practical via public transport, or on foot, in the time available.

Hi, thanks for your quick response.
I have read the blog which is great help, but can you answer this question please. Skippy's allowances appear to have be halved as she and her partner both contribute. I am in a married couple but only I work as my partner is a stay at home dad to our 2 young children.
As we only have my salary as income would they allow me the full amount of rent, council tax, utitilies or would they consider only half? Also would they allow me to support my husband/childrens food, clothing etc costs or just my own?

Thanks

Hi

in your case you should complete the expenditure form by entering the cost of each expenditure to the household.

In section 6 of the SoA where it asks if there are any other contributions, this is where you would normally put your husband's contribution. As he does not work you should of course enter "0".

You can explain your husband's role in 11.2 or section 13 additional information.
